So Much to be Thankful for . . .

So much has been happening for Land of Lincoln Bookshare I am not sure where to start.

First, thank you to everyone who visited us on Saturday at the Holiday Farmers Market. We gave out around seven boxes of books and got to talk to some really wonderful people. All the people we spoke with were so receptive and supportive of our mission. It just served as confirmation that we have identified a true need in our community. Seeing people’s faces as they found a book  to take home was amazing. Plus there is the added bonus of seeing the look on their faces when we said it was free. Not much in the world is free and the look of shock/disbelief we get is priceless.

Thanks to the publicity provided by our article in the Illinois Times (thank you again, Cinda!) and our appearance at the Farmers Market we have received a number of book donations. We are at nine boxes and counting! Thank you to everyone who has donated not just this weekend, but since our inception. We appreciate each and every book you have parted with to help our cause.

We were also lucky enough this weekend to receive approximately $150.00 in monetary donations. I know this may seem like a small amount of money, but we can use this to make an big difference. Recently Tina and I figured out that if we are purchasing used children’s books we can get them for about $0.78 each and adult books for around $1.25 each. This means that we can turn that $150.00 into 192 children’s book or 120 adult books or some mixture of the two. We are truly working to make every dollar entrusted to us count.

Finally, last night Tina and I met with a kind supporter, who took time out of her very busy schedule, to give us a crash course in grant writing. This is an area in which we have no experience so we could not appreciate it more. Successfully applying for a grant would enable us to buy more books and reach more people. It would mean the ability to acquire more storage space so that the Bookshare can continue to grow. Dependent on the amount, it could even mean an honest to goodness bookmobile!!! (Tina’s husband is hoping for this option so he can have his pick-up truck back. 🙂 )

There is one more bit of news to share with all of you, but that one is so cool that it deserves its own post.

Thank you so much to everyone who has helped us get to this point. It means more to us that you can imagine.

Tiffany and Tina

  1. Great place to buy children’s books is Goodwill–usually 50 cents.
On Wednesday there is a senior discount of 20%

    • Hi Sue. Thank you so much for writing to us! We both have a deep love of Goodwill so it is nice to hear from someone else who does too. Happy New Year!
