Hi, we are so glad you found us!
Now that you are here we assume that you have a few questions such as:
“Who are you?”
“What are you trying to do?”
And of course, “Is Bookshare a real word?”
Land of Lincoln Bookshare is a 501c3 nonprofit based in Springfield, Illinois. It was founded by two best friends with a passion for books who wish to foster the love of reading in their community. Everyone, young or old, rich or poor should have access to books and this is the driving force behind the creation of LOL Bookshare.
To achieve this we take in new and gently used paperbacks or hardbacks and seek opportunities to redistribute these donations throughout Central Illinois. LOL Bookshare provides a place where people can bring their donations knowing that they will be provided free of charge to those who need or want them.
As for the word “bookshare” you caught us, we made it up. Please don’t hold that against us.
If you have more questions you can reach us at info@lolbookshare.com or leave a comment below.
“What an astonishing thing a book is…one glance at it and you’re inside the mind of another person, maybe somebody dead for thousands of years. Across the millennia, an author is speaking clearly and silently inside your head, directly to you. Writing is perhaps the greatest of human inventions, binding together people who never knew each other, citizens of distant epochs. Books break the shackles of time. A book is proof that humans are capable of working magic.”
Carl Sagan
Helping Hands of Springfield just posted a request for books on their Facebook page, if you have any available for redistribution!
I appreciate your mission, LOL Bookshare!
Christy, Thank you so much for letting us know! We will reach out to them today.
Good morning,
I am looking for a home for a few thousand used books being donated by a closing university library. The collection includes popular fiction titles. Please provide contact information to offer the closing library.
Hi, every year we weed our collections would you be interested in the books we take off?
Hi Kathy, We would love to have them. Please let us know what we can do to help.
I have several college textbooks I no longer need as a teacher. Would you be interested in them?
Hi Mary Beth,
I am sorry, but we generally don’t take textbooks. Unfortunately, they become outdated so quickly that it can be difficult to find a home for them.
This is Cinda- I wrote about you in 2017. Now doing an article on Little Free Libraries and other ways to access books. Just wanted to find out if you are still running your Bookshare and where people could donate books.
